Water Pipe Replacement Begun In Lower Makefield

The $1.2 million Pennsylvania American Water project may cause some water service interruptions, discolored water and low water pressure.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — Work has begun in Lower Makefield on a million-dollar-plus project to upgrade the township's water system.

Pennsylvania American Water has begun work replacing a section of water main, as well as service lines and fire hydrants in Lower Makefield. The project will cost about $1.2 million and is intended to upgrade aging cast-iron pipes in Lower Makefield.

Beginning this week, crews are installing nearly 2,400 feet of a new, 8-inch iron water main, as well as new copper service lines and fittings for some customers.

Construction will be happening in the following areas:

  • Makefield Road, between Big Oak and Pennsbury Court
  • Pine Grove Road between Sutphin Road and Norway Drive
  • Linden Avenue, between Pine Grove Road and the cul de sac

The final paving work on the project is scheduled to be finished in May 2020 if weather permits, Pennsylvania American Water said.

Crews will be working Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction and drivers are urged to give themselves extra time when traveling through work areas.
