Blood Emergency Declared By Rhode Island Blood Center

Rhode Island's blood supply has fallen under a two-day inventory, the center said.

The Rhode Island Blood Center said its supply has fallen below a two-day inventory.

The center declared a blood emergency Monday.

"We are calling on all eligible donors to make an immediate blood or platelet donation," the center posted on its website. "Schedule your donation today and meet the needs of patients in the hospitals we serve."

The Rhode Island Blood Center posted on its Facebook page that the less-than-two-day inventory is "well under" the seven-day "level needed to support hospital and patient needs."

"Summer vacations and school breaks have slowed donations, just as trauma cases rise," the center posted on Facebook.
