Gov. McKee And 1st Lady Wish Rhode Islanders Merry Christmas And Happy Holidays

The governor and first lady encouraged residents to "continue to show kindness and care for one another."

Gov. Dan McKee and first lady Susan McKee wished Rhode Islanders a merry Christmas and happy holidays.

“Christmas and the holiday season are a time for reflection, gratitude, and togetherness," the governor and first lady said in a media release.

“This year, our hearts remain heavy after the tragic shooting at Brown University. We continue to pray for the victims, their families, the Brown University and Providence communities, and all those affected by this senseless act of violence," the McKees said.

“Even in this difficult moment, we have seen the very best of Rhode Island: neighbors helping neighbors and strangers coming together in support. Across our state, we are reminded of the strength of our communities and the compassion we show one another. We have seen Rhode Island truly live out its motto: hope," the couple said, according to the release.

“This holiday season, may we continue to show kindness and care for one another," they said. “On behalf of the entire McKee family, we wish Rhode Islanders a merry Christmas and a peaceful holiday."
