"Numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop late this afternoon and persist into part of the evening," the National Weather Service said. "The strongest storms will be capable of producing torrential rainfall in a very short period of time."
Some locations may see 1 to 2 inches of rain in an hour, according to the forecast.
"This will result in the potential for localized flash flooding, particularly if this were to occur over a vulnerable urban center," the National Weather Service said.
"You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flash Flood Warnings," the National Weather Service advised. "Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop."
Rain was expected to continue Wednesday with a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. followed by a chance of showers between 8-11 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., as well as patchy fog before 9 a.m.
