Rhode Island Set To Bake Sunday

The National Weather Service forecast extreme heat in Rhode Island starting Sunday.

Temperatures are expected to push above 100 degrees Sunday, the National Weather Service warned in an extreme heat watch.

The National Weather Service predicts the heatwave will roll in Sunday afternoon and last through Tuesday evening, affecting the entire state and nearly all of New England."

"An extended period of extreme heat and humidity is on tap for the Sunday through Tuesday time frame," the National Weather Service said. "The worst of the heat and humidity will be Monday and Tuesday when some locations may see Heat Index Values approach 110 degrees."

The National Weather Service also stressed health concerns could be aggravated by the oppressive weather.

"Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events," the agency said said.

Faced with such risks, the National Weather Service advised Rhode Islanders to "drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors."
