Update: 1 Reported Dead, 2 Injured In Block Island State Airport Crash

BLOCK ISLAND, RI — One passenger of a small plane was reported dead and two others were hospitalized after the aircraft crashed into trees following its landing at Block Island State Airport.

A Piper Cherokee aircraft was "involved in an accident" shortly before 12:30 p.m., the corporation said in a news release, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the accident involved the plane crashing into trees after landing.

The corporation said in a media release the three passengers were taken to Block Island Medical Center. Multiple outlets reported one died en route.

More than 20 members of the New Shoreham Fire and Police Departments, along with Rhode Island Airport Corporation personnel, responded to the incident, the release said.

The FAA said it will investigate the crash.
