Are Haines Park Fields Worth Cost?

Barrington's parks and recreation board is taking a look at the cost of maintaining the fields under the agreement with the state.

The parks and recreation commission holds its monthly meeting Thursday, April 25, in the Barrington library. It starts at 7:15 pm.

Among the agenda items are the cost of maintaining playing fields at Haines Memorial State Park, a tennis-court ordinance resolution, and a review of guidelines for public memorials.

The recreation commission endorsed another one-year lease for the Haines Park playing fields at its previous meeting. But members also decided they wanted to review the maintenance costs by the Department of Public Works -- especially with two more playing fields expected to be coming on line at Chianese Park in the near future.

Barrington's lease with the RI Department of Environmental Management gives the town exclusive use of the playing fields at the once-coveted state park fields if it covers the expense of keeping the fields in shape for Little League Baseball and other youth sports.
