Ideas for RI-Funded Recreation Projects, 'Ball Wall' on Board's Agenda
The Barrington Parks and Recreation Commission meets Thursday, Aug. 22, in the library.

Do you have any ideas for recreation projects in Barrington that could be funded with state grants?
The Parks and Recreation Commission wants to be ready if and when the RI Department of Environmental Management announces a new round of funding for recreation programs, said Recreation Director Michele Geremia.
“We’ll be brainstormining,” said Geremia of the meeting of the board on Thursday evening, Aug. 22, in the Barrington library. It starts at 7 pm in the Board Room.

Town Planner Phil Hervey brought the idea to the commission, she said.
“What kinds of things could we do?” Geremia said. “We want to be ready when DEM announces the grant program again in the fall or later in the year.”

The agenda for Thursday’s meeting also includes a proposal from the Barrington lacrosse organization for the construction of some type of “portable wall” that could be used during practice. Players would throw the lacrosse balls against the wall, she said.
The group has plans and a design, Geremia said. It could also be used for other sports with similar needs. Where the wall would be used or constructed is one of the issues to be discussed, she said.
