More RI Schools 'Commended' In 2017: State

The state education department says 28 schools are commended. Is your school one of the elite?

BARRINGTON, RI– The 2017 School Report Cards are out, according to the Rhode Island Department of Education. The complete results are posted on RIDE’s website.

"Schools classified as commended are the highest performing schools in the state, representing strong performance across metrics," the department said. Last year, only 22 schools were commended.

The state said it came up with the list "by using a Composite Index Score, or CIS, that is based on two common measures: student proficiency in ELA and mathematics, and performance gaps for ELA and mathematics. A third measure differs by grade level, using either student growth in ELA and mathematics at the elementary and middle levels, or high school graduation rate at the high school level."
