View 'The Apartment' in Library Auditorium
The 'Slice of Lemmon' film series celebrating Jack Lemmon continues today in the Barrington library auditorium.

Join librarian and film enthusiast Doug Swiszcz today, July 24, for A Slice of Lemmon: A Summer Matinee Movie Series that celebrates a handful of the comedies of Jack Lemmon.
This afternoon's selection is The Apartment. It starts at 1 pm in the Barrington Public Library auditorium.
The Apartment is the Academy Award-winning Best Picture of 1960. Billy Wilder directed what one critic called a “darkly comic morality tale,” one which let Lemmon display both his comedic and dramatic acting talents.

"Here, he’s cast in a role at which he would come to excel: the little man, lost in the sea of humanity, but trying desperately to carve out a niche for himself," said Swiszcz. "He’s a small cog in the wheel at a large insurance company, who lends his apartment to his philandering bosses for their trysts."
But is this the best way to climb the ladder of success if it means compromising your self-respect?

Fred MacMurray and Shirley Maclaine co-star in the black and white film, which runs for 125 minutes and is unrated. It is preceded by commentary from Swiszcz, and is free and open to all.
The summer series concludes next Wednesday, July 31, with The Odd Couple, co-starring Walter Matthau.
