William W. Violet, 74, Retired Banker

His calling hours are Thursday and his funeral service will be held on Friday from Smith-Mason Funeral Home in Riverside.

William W. Violet, of Barrington, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 20, 2013 at the Bristol Veteran's Home as a result of a short but difficult battle with ALS. He was 74.

He was the beloved husband of Carol (Ellsworth) Violet for 43 years. He was the son of Ethel (Dougherty) Needham.

Violet graduated from Johnson & Wales University, served the Army in Germany, and was a faithful servant of Grace Church in Providence. He had nearly 40 years of experience in the banking industry.

In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and was an avid Red Sox and Providence Bruins fan. He is remembered for his kind and gentle character, which always encouraged those around him. He will be missed dearly by his wife, Carol Violet of Barrington, his son, Daniel Violet, his daughter, Kristin Charles and her husband Paul, his two grandchildren, Selah and Adden Charles, and his father-in-law, Edward Ellsworth.

Arrangements are with Smith-Mason Funeral Home, 398 Willett Ave. in Riverside, East Providence, where family will receive friends on Thursday, July 25 from 4 to 8 pm. His funeral will be held on Friday, July 26, at 11 am in Grace Church in Providence, 175 Mathewson St. A burial with military honors will be at Swan Point Cemetery immediately following the service.
