BRISTOL-WARREN, RI — Another interim superintendent has taken the helm of the Bristol-Warren school district. This week, the school committee appointed Ed Mara, a familiar face to the district.

Mara served as Bristol-Warren's superintendent from 2003 to 2009, when he retired.

"I am so pleased to be back in the district where I was Superintendent a few years ago," Mara said in a letter to the community. "I will continue to support and maintain the great things happening in our classrooms and in our community working alongside our teachers and principals."

Mara said that he and school leaders will continue to work with the Rhode Island Department of Health to ensure the safety of students and staff in schools.

Mara is the third superintendent to lead Bristol-Warren over the past few months. Former Superintendent Jonathan Brice stepped down before the beginning of the school year over clashes about start dates and Jewish holidays. Interim Superintendent Bob Hicks abruptly stepped down last week, with no reason given for his sudden departure.
