CENTRAL FALLS, RI — An early morning fire displaced 18 residents of a multifamily home, according to reports.

The fire department believes the blaze started in the basement of the Mary Street residence, WJAR reported.

"When firefighters first arrived at the scene, they said flames could be seen coming out of the basement floor windows and then it began to move its way up to the first floor," per WJAR.

The fire forced 16 adults and two babies from the building, a WPRI story said.

"All of the residents and a dog made it out safely," according to WPRI. "No injuries were reported."

Providence, Pawtucket, Lincoln, East Providence and Cumberland fire crews assisted in fighting the fire, an ABC 6 story said.

"The majority of residents were able to exit the building on their own, and crews assisted the remaining residents," ABC 6 reported.

Central Falls Fire Chief Scott Mello failed to respond to messages left about the fire.
