CCFD Board of Directors Candidate: Raymond D. Scott, Jr.
Raymond is one of 12 candidates vying for a seat on the Central Coventry Fire District Board of Directors, which will be decided with an all-day vote on June 29.

If elected to the CCFD Board of Directors, Raymond Scott Jr., of Crestwood Road hopes to bring more than two decades of experience with him, not only working with the public, but performing managerial, organizational and budgetary tasks as well. He has worked for the Stop & Shop Supermarket Company for 25 years, during which he not only worked with and catered to the public, but also ran inventory, ordered product and wrote schedules for employees, taking payroll and budget figures into consideration while doing so.
Now retired, Scott believes that his skills and experience will be an asset to the CCFD Board if he is elected, as well as his fervent desire for accountability, fairness and public safety. He also knows the importance of an informed public and hopes to help educate Central Coventry residents about their options regarding fire and emergency service and what outcomes or consequences those options carry.
"I believe that it is important not to liquidate the fire district. It won't be OK if that happens and that's why I decided to run for the board," he said. "I understand that people don't want to pay more for emergency services, but when I dial 911, I don't want it to be coming from East Greenwich, West Warwick or somewhere else. I want it to come from Central Coventry."

Scott would like his fellow taxpayers to understand the importance of having a fire department, but also that they should not be required to bear the brunt of the mistakes that have been made within the district in the past. He feels that everyone; taxpayers, firefighters and administration, should work together to be part of the solution. If elected, his first goal would be to work with all parties involved to prepare a fair and realistic budget as soon as possible in order to move forward.
Apart from his ability and desire to set things right with the fire district from a business perspective, Scott believes that he can bring several equally important traits to the table as board member.Â

"I can bring openness, I can bring transparency and I can bring honesty to the board," he said.
The Special Election will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2013, in the Town Council Chambers at the Coventry Town Hall (1675 Flat River Rd.).
