Chargers Overpower Oakers in Road Opener

Gaby Lesnett and Casey Clooutier each score 10 points for Coventry.

WOOD RIVER JUNCTION — Coventry couldn't keep up with a bigger, more physical Chariho High School squad in the second half, as the Oakers' girls' basketball team lost 62-42 on Dec. 14 to the Chargers.

At halftime, the Chargers (3-0, 1-0 Division I-South) and Oakers (0-2, 0-2 Division I-South) were knotted up at 26. However, in the second half the Chargers wore down Coventry using 3-point shots from junior Nancy Toth and buckets in the lane by senior six-foot center Krista Trenholm.

The Oakers were led by Gaby Lesnett and Casey Cloutier, who each scored 10 points. Erica Ball (7), Brooke Willard (4), Hannah Cole (3), Mackenzie Mitchell (3), Autumn English (2), Tianna Cruz Perry (2) and Becky LaPlante (1) rounded out the scoring for Coventry.

The game was originally scheduled to take place at Coventry, but the location was changed Monday morning to make it Chariho's home opener instead. Coventry plays 7 pm. at Division I-North opponent Bay View.
