Coventry Elementary School Employee Accused Of Assaulting Student

COVENTRY, RI — An employee at Tiogue Elementary School in Coventry was arrested after assaulting a student, police said Thursday.

On Dec. 13, 2024, police were called to the school to investigate the allegations and charged Petrina Lunardelli, 48, of Coventry, with simple assault and battery.

Coventry school officials said Lunardelli was placed on leave, and she resigned on Dec. 20, 2024.

Tiogue Elementary School lists Lunardelli as a life skill teaching assistant on its online staff directory.

Police said Lunardelli turned herself in Monday to be processed, and she was then released. She is scheduled for arraignment at 9 a.m. Jan. 22.
