Coventry Holding Halloween House Decorating Contest

The most creative and scariest displays will be awarded a $50 gift certificate.

COVENTRY, RI — This October, the town of Coventry wants residents to get spooky. The town is holding a Halloween house decorating contest, with prizes for the best displays.

Anyone interested in taking part must register by Oct. 16, the first day decoration must be on display. Decorations must stay out every night from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., through Halloween, to qualify for judging. Up to 20 registrations will be accepted.

The town will list the addresses of contest participants on its official website, allowing the public to visit and judge the displays. All displays must be visible at night, and will only be judged based on what can be seen from the street.

Displays must be homemade, no professional decorators allowed. Decorations can include anything, such as inflatables and lights. Participants are asked to keep displays family friendly — no political or discriminatory displays, or sights that would be upsetting to children.

Winners will be chosen for two categories: most creative, and scariest (while still remaining family friendly!), with a prize of a $50 gift certificate to the Olde Theater Diner. Winners will be announced Nov. 1.
