Coventry Police Searching for Machete-Wielding Bank Robber

A man carrying a large machete robbed a BankRI branch in Coventry on Monday, police said.

COVENTRY, RI—Police are searching for a man who robbed a local BankRI while wielding a large machete.

The Coventry Police Department released photos of the man taken at the bank on Monday at around 4:28 p.m. in an effort to make a positive identification.

Coventry Police Chief Col. John MacDonald said that the suspect entered the bank at 3 Coventry Shoppers Park carrying the machete and demanded money from a teller.

He left the bank with an undetermined amount of cash.

The suspect was wearing a red Russell Athletic jacket with a black hood and back pants with white stripes on the sides of each leg.

Coventry police, along with officers from west Greenwich and West Warwick are actively searching the area along with K-9 units from the Warwick Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police.
