Five Things, August 1: Books Are Wings, Pink Heals Tickets and More
Today is Thursday, August 1, 2013 and here are five things to know today.

'Books Are Wings' Party: Today at 1:30 p.m., the Coventry Public Library will host its 2013 "Books Are Wings" Party! Children ages 3 and up are invited to the event featuring book giveaways, crafts and refreshments. Books Are Wings is a non-profit organization that has worked for 13 years to put books in the hands of children from preschool age through junior high in order to promote childhood literacy. Registration is required, so be sure to call the Library at 822-9102 to check availability!
Dog Park Fundraising Help: Lisa Finneran, President of the newly-formed Coventry Dog Park Association, is looking for volunteers to help raise donations to go towards building the highly-anticipated dog park behind the Town Hall Annex on Flat River Road. If you are interested, or have suggestions for raising funds, contact Lisa at Lfinneran12@gmail.com.
Artisans and Crafters:Â The Friends of the Coventry Public Library are now accepting applications for artisans and crafters for the 3rd Annual Fall Artisan Fair to be held on Saturday, Oct. 5. Contact Virginia at lynchkids96@verizon.net or call (401) 826-1122 for an application or more information.
Girls Softball Fall Ball: Registration for Coventry Girls Softball League's Fall Ball season is now open! The mail-in registration form is attached to this article or can be found at www.coventrysoftball.com. The divisions being offered this year are as follows: Slow Pitch: 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under, Senior; Fast Pitch: 10 and under, 12 and under, Senior. Registrants do not have to live in Coventry, but do need to mail their completed registration form by August 9 to: Mike Puckett, 7 Eastgate Dr., Coventry, RI 02816.

Plan Ahead - Pink Heals Reception: The Pink Heals National Tour will arrive right here in Coventry on August 27! The RI Chapter is holding a welcome reception at Nino's on Lake Tiogue at 6 p.m., complete with a family-style dinner! Cost is $20 per person and will benefit the Pink Heals organization.
