John P. "Jack" Mahoney, US Navy Veteran, Dies at 80

March 21, 1933 - July 30, 2013

John P. “Jack” Mahoney, 80, of East Greenwich Ave., formerly of Sherwood Valley Lane, Coventry, passed away on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Kent Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy L. (Bobel) Mahoney.

Jack served in the United States Navy. Later, he worked as a lineman with New England Telephone Company (Nynex) and Bell Atlantic for 37 years before retiring in 1988. His hobby was stamp collecting, and he also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles (always in ink), and especially traveling with his family.

He was the beloved father of Linda Passett and her husband George of Cranston, Neil Mahoney and his wife Gail of Rehoboth, MA and Brian Mahoney and his wife Mary of Coventry. He was the adored grandfather (Poppa) of Catherine and Christine Passett, Erin, William and Kyle Mahoney.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Aug. 3 at 8 a.m. from the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St. (Rte.117), Coventry, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in SS. John & Paul Church, Coventry. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Visiting hours will be held Friday, Aug. 2 from 3-7 p.m.
