Monday Essentials: Memorial Scholarship Raffle, CCFD Hearing Notice and More

Today is Monday, July 29, 2013 and here are five things to know about the week ahead.

Babysitter's Training Course: Registration begins today, July 29, for a Babysitter's Training course conducted by the RI Chapter of the American Red Cross on Wednesday, August 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Coventry Public Library. The class is offered to boys and girls ages 11-15, and will teach the fundamentals of babysitting, safety and first aid. A non-refundable fee of $85 is due at registration in the Youth Services department of the library. Fee includes instruction and all materials. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided by the library.

CCFD Hearing: A hearing will be held at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, July 30, in Courtroom 11 of Providence County Superior Court (250 Benefit St., Providence), to discuss Central Coventry Fire District Special Master Richard Land's request to authorize the return of the district's 2009 Pierce ladder truck. The newly elected Board of Directors approved the decision at a recent meeting.Click here to view court documents for Tuesday's hearing.

John H. Urwin III Memorial Scholarship: Tickets are now available for the annual fundraiser to benefit the John H. Urwin Memorial Scholarship Fund. This year's prize will consist of five tickets to Gillette Stadium to see the New England Patriots take on the Cleveland Browns on December 8. Raffle tickets are $10 each and are on sale at Coventry Little League Concession stands at Wood Street and Paine Field, at Pagliarini's Family Restaurant (637 Washington St.), or by contacting Laurie at 826.1746. The drawing will take place on September 28, immediately following the organization's Pasta Dinner.

Dog Park Fundraising Help: Lisa Finneran, President of the newly-formed Coventry Dog Park Association, is looking for volunteers to help raise donations to go towards building the highly-anticipated dog park behind the Town Hall Annex on Flat River Road. CPR/First Aid Course: Register today for CPR & Safety Classes of RI's next CPR and/or First Aid training course, scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, August 8 at the company's training center, located at 960 Tiogue Avenue in Coventry.
