19-Year-Old Charged With Gunning Down 16-Year-Old In Cranston Parking Lot
The two teens arrived together in the apartment complex parking lot in a stolen car, police said.

CRANSTON, RI — A 19-year-old from Massachusetts was charged with gunning down a Providence teen in the parking lot of the Pocasset Village apartments early Monday morning.
D'Maury Monteiro of Fall River was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Eduardo Loran Colon in the parking lot of the Dyer Avenue apartments.
Colon was found dead with a gunshot wound to his upper chest shortly before 9:30 a.m., police said, but surveillance showed he was shot nearly six and a half hours earlier, the Cranston Police Department said in a media release.

The video also showed that Monteiro, Colon and a third person arrived at the apartment complex together in a stolen car, the release said.
They exited wearing black clothing and masks, and appeared to be preparing to break into a vehicle when (Monteiro) produced a handgun and shot" Colon, the release said.

"During the confrontation, Monteiro allegedly produced a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the victim at close range before fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai Elantra," according to the release.
The Cranston police secured an arrest warrant Monday night and tracked Monteiro down to an address on Fuller Street in Dorchester, Massachusetts "where the Rhode Island State Police Violent Fugitive Task Force, the U.S. Marshal's Service, Massachusetts State Police (and) the Boston Police Department took him ... into custody," the release said.
The stolen car was located in Providence Monday night, according to the release, and a search warrant was being executed Tuesday evening at the Fuller Street address.

Monteiro remains in custody in Massachusetts while the Rhode Island Attorney General's Office moves forward with extradition proceedings, the release said.
"This was a brazen act of violence that took the life of a young man," Colonel Michael J. Winquist, the chief of the Cranston Police Department, said in the release.
"Our detectives acted quickly to identify and apprehend the suspect, and we will continue to work diligently to bring all those involved to justice," Winquist said. "Our thoughts are with this young man's family as they deal with a tragic loss. I also wish to thank our partner law enforcement agencies for their assistance in the investigation and safe apprehension of the suspect."
