Alleged Purse Snatcher Arrested In Coventry

CRANSTON, RI—Tyrell Rivera Carpenter, 19, of Providence., is being charged in connection with the theft of an 86-year-old woman's pocketbook. Police allege the victim was robbed March 21 while she was shopping at the Plainfield Pike Walmart. Inside her bag was $1,153 cash, which she had just withdrawn from the bank before going shopping. Coventry police arrested Carpenter on Monday afternoon in the parking lot of the Coventry Walmart, where he allegedly stole two other purses. He is being arraigned on Tuesday in Kent County District Court on the Coventry charges.

Cranston police identified him as the man who swiped a purse in Cranston and obtained an arrest warrant.
