Blind Rhode Island Woman Stars In New Netflix Series

JOHNSTON, RI — A Rhode Island woman recently made her acting debut in "All the Light We Cannot See," a new Netflix limited series.

Aria Mia Loberti, of Johnston, stars as Marie Laure in the series based off the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of the same name. The book follows, Laure a blind girl growing up in Nazi-occupied France. And like Laure, Loberti is legally blind.

Loberti first heard about the series while studying as a PhD student at the University of Rhode Island. She told WPRI 12 a teacher told her about the Netflix casting call and encouraged her to audition. Loberti also told the television station she wants to use the opportunity to show that people of all abilities deserve opportunities to succeed.

"I'm really privileged to hopefully have a set of double doors that I’m throwing open and hopefully everyone can just come running in behind me," Loberti said in an interview with WPRI 12. "That’s the coolest thing I could imagine. Someone else could be here next and take it even further."
