Coventry Man Caught with Stun Gun Smartphone

The 19-year-old was arrested in South Yarmouth, Mass., on New Year's Eve.

SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA—A 19-year-old Coventry man is facing charges of stun gun possession following his arrest by Yarmouth, Mass., police on New Year’s Eve.

Police said Dylan Leyden was charged after police saw him throw the device to the ground when they responded to a 911 call from a man who said he had a broken nose but hung up before giving a name or address.

Police used location data sent from the phone used to call 911 to find Leyden standing on a South Yarmouth road with another man, both showing signs of intoxication, police said in a news release.

Police recovered the phone and discovered that it was not a phone but an electronic stun gun, which is illegal to posses in Massachusetts.

Police also found illegal fireworks after a search of Leyden’s belongings, police said.

All told, he was charged with stun gun possession and unlawful fireworks possession.

He was arraigned on Monday.
