Cranston Election: Voters Pass $40 Million School Bond

CRANSTON, RI — Cranston voters have approved a $40 million school bond to help pay for five major projects at city public and charter schools.

The vote came in just before the deadline to receive a bump in state reimbursements.

According to unofficial election results, 1,580 voters approved the bond, while 505 rejected it. Voter turnout was just four percent.

The School Bond Projects

One of the projects includes fixing the boiler system at Cranston High School East. Other projects include:

  • $13.94 million for the purchase, renovation, furnishing and equipping of the Cranston Apprenticeship Exploration School at 4 Sharpe Drive, which is now rented by the school department
  • $15.54 million for construction, improvements, furnishing, and/or equipping of the Eden Park Elementary School
  • $6.59 million to help with portions of the new Gladstone Elementary School
  • $1.67 million to fix the parking lot at Cranston High School West.
