Cranston Detective Gives Abused Bulldog Second Chance at Life
But Clyde, who spent his first five years trapped in a small crate in a basement, needs expensive surgery and a fund has been established.

CRANSTON, RI—An American bulldog that spent the first five years of his life imprisoned in a small crate is getting a second chance at life thanks to the efforts of a Cranston detective and a nonprofit that helps rescue bulldogs.
Det. Paula Duffy has rescued many animals from abusive situations. This bulldog, Clyde, is an especially gentle creature—the “sweetest gentle giant that I have ever met,” Duffy said.
But spending so much time in a crate in the basement of an abusive home has left Clyde in rough shape. The wretched conditions left him unable to stand up and the dog is in need of expensive surgery, Duffy said.
