Cranston Man Charged with Molesting 10-Year-Old

Robert P. Barboza, 46, is facing a charge of first-degree child molestation.

CRANSTON, RI—A 46-year-old Cranston man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old child.

Police said Robert P. Barboza, of 784 Park Ave., was arrested Friday by members of the Providence and Cranston Police Departments after he was located in Providence.

Cranston Police Chief Michael J. Winquist Jr. said in a news release that Cranston detectives working in the department's Special Victims unit began investigating after a report that Barboza had assaulted the child.

The child, who knew Barboza at the time of the assault, disclosed the abuse to police and the state Department of Children, Youth and Families during interviews, police said.

Police got a warrant for Barboza's arrest after the investigation and Barboza is now being held for arraignment before a justice of the peace, police said.
