The car, driven by a Cranston man, flew about 25 feet through the air before coming to a stop, upside-down, on the tracks.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Cranston man was killed early Monday morning after the car he was driving crashed through a fence and landed upside-down on train tracks in Providence, reports say. The fatal crash occurred in the Olneyville area.

The car, driven by 52-year-old Amado Fuentes, crashed through a fence at the end of Dike Street flew about 25 feet through the air onto the train tracks, landing upside-down. It was around 4:30 a.m.

"When we pulled up, we saw one victim on the tracks," Providence Fire Chief Steve Capracotta said, according to WJAR. Fuentes was the only person in the car.

Emergency authorities had to wait for Amtrak to cut the power to the track and to stop trains in both directions. They then used a crane to get the car off, reports say.

WPRI reported trains were back operational around 7:30 a.m. They spoke with Fuentes' coworker and friend, Gelin Leon, who said Fuentes was probably on his way to a work shift when the crash happened.

"He was just a good friend. He would give his right to hand to anybody. And it's very sad to hear that he's not there anymore," he said.
