Cranston Man Driving Hits Pedestrian: Police

Police say an officer was already stopped at the intersection when he came in fast and hit a pedestrian crossing on a crosswalk.

CRANSTON, RI — Cranston police are accusing a Cranston man of driving under the influence and causing serious bodily injury, a felony offense, after a Tuesday night collision. Jacob Travis, 25, was driving around 10:40 p.m. Tuesday night when he hit a pedestrian, police say.

The collision happened near Park and Elmwood Avenues. The 45-year-old pedestrian, from Providence, was crossing Park in a crosswalk and was hit by the Chevy Equinox Travis was driving, police say.

Cranston police say an officer was stopped at the red light at the intersection on Elmwood and saw the whole thing. According to their report, the pedestrian went into the crosswalk as the officer heard "a loud engine" and saw the white Equinox coming at "what appeared to be a high rate of speed."
