Cranston Man Found Guilty: Assault With Intent to Murder: AG

CRANSTON, RI—The crime happened in Providence back on Dec. 4, 2016. But last week, a Providence County Grand Jury found Alberto Rivera, 42, of Cranston, guilty of shooting his ex-wife's boyfriend in the neck, according to the Attorney General's office. The jury came back with a verdict in one hour, Kilmartin's office said.
Rivera not only shot Juan Crousette but also pointed a gun at his ex-wife Brenda Villanueva. He did so in front of his daughter, 8. He faced a slew of charges, including assault with a dangerous weapon (in a dwelling) with the intent to murder; burglary; assault with a dangerous weapon; discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence; use of a firearm while committing a crime of violence; possession of a firearm after being convicted of a crime of violence; and carrying a firearm without a license.

According to court records, Crousette heard footsteps outside the apartment at 126 Lowell Ave. He got up, went to the window and saw Rivera outside. He told Villanueva to call police and then heard the sound of the living room sliding glass door being broken. Two children were sleeping in the living room. When Crousette went to them, Rivera shot him.
Crousette testified her felt as if he were drowning in blood.

Then Rivera trained the gun on his ex-wife. When his , he fled.
