Cranston, Providence Police Donate 21 ATVs, Dirt Bikes To Dominican Republic Police

The ATVs and dirt bikes were confiscated from people who illegally drove them on local roads and are being repurposed in the Dominican.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Providence nonprofit Lights & Sirens International, along with Cranston and Providence police, donated 21 ATVs and dirt bikes to the Dominican Republic National Police.

Cranston police said the ATVs and dirt bikes were confiscated from people who illegally drove them on local roads. They are being repurposed to enhance service capabilities for Dominican officers.

The seized vehicles were shipped to the island nation in March. They were formally presented to the country's national police force Thursday in Santo Domingo.

LSI is a Providence-based nonprofit that hold programs and events intended to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. The group also uses sports, cultural exposure, civic education, and guidance to foster community cohesion between Rhode Island and the Dominican Republic.

Rhode Island has the second-largest Dominican population in the United States.
