Cranston's Ready If Snow Falls: Mayor Fung

The City's prepared, the mayor said Friday.

CRANSTON, RI—Let it snow. Cranston's ready. Mayor Fung said Friday the public works crews have all the snow gear prepared. Some 50 snow removal trucks are ready to go. Plows have been sharpened. All eligible trucks are going to be plowing, if needed, and 7,000 tons of salt and sand mix have been stockpiled. The plan is to start pre-treating the roads Saturday after noontime, presuming the snow blows in for late afternoon.

And then, if the snow piles up, the City can call on more than 100 contractors to pitch in.

"All dispatch vehicles used to supervise vendors have been gassed up," the City said.

"Mayor Fung is monitoring the forecast and urges all Cranston residents to complete their storm preparations before snowflakes arrive on Saturday and stay off the road while it’s snowing unless absolutely necessary," his office said.

“Cranston is ready to tackle whatever Mother Nature brings us this weekend,” Mayor Fung said. “I urge everyone to be careful out on the roads and give our crews the room they need to keep our roads safe and clear.”
