Earthquake Hits Overnight Near Cranston
Officials say the 2.3 magnitude quake happened around 3:43 a.m. Wednesday morning.

An earthquake hit near Cranston, Rhode Island early Wednesday morning.
Measured as a 2.3 magnitude quake, it happened just over a mile east of Cranston at approximately 3:43 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Officials received reports of the quake from nearly 67 residents in the area.
The quake may have also been felt in Providence, East Providence, Coventry and Woonsocket.

This is the second time in two days an earthquake has been felt in New England. On Tuesday, July 21, a 1.5 magnitude quake struck at around 7:49 a.m. about one kilometer east-southeast of Plymouth, NH, near Locust Drive just off Rte. 175.
The NH quake was the the fourth time in four months an earthquake hit the Granite State this year.
