Ex-Cranston City Councilor In Custody Again

Ex-Cranston City Councilor Matthew Reilly resigned​ after police say they found him unconscious in his car after he smoked crack cocaine.

CRANSTON, RI — Former Cranston City Councilor Matthew Reilly was reportedly taken into custody again.

Reilly, who was released on home confinement two months ago after being accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl, is back in custody at the Rhode Island Department of Correction's intake center, WPRI 12 reported. Correction officials declined to share further details, only saying he is awaiting trial.

Reilly resigned in May after Cranston police say they found him unconscious in his car after he smoked crack cocaine. A month later, he was charged in North Kingstown with first-degree child molestation, sexual assault, second-degree child molestation sexual assault, and enticement of a person under the age of 16.
