Family OK, Cat Dies in Cranston Fire
The fire is believed to have started after a cooking mishap.

CRANSTON, RI--
A family of eight people is OK but they lost their family cat after a fire erupted in their Montgomery Avenue home on Tuesday.
Cranston Fire Department Dep. Chief Stephen MacIntosh said eight people live at the house at 240 Montgomery Ave. and all five who were home when the fire broke out made it out safetly.

Members of the Cranston Fire Department were dispatched at around 1 p.m.
“The family cat did perish in the fire and the house is not habitable,” MacIntosh said.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family and the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. though it is likely from a cooking mishap.
The 1,132 square foot house was built in 1934 and appears to be a rental property, according to records on file with the city’s Tax Assessor.
