Firefighters Battle Princess Ave. Fire

At least one person was transported to the hospital.

CRANSTON, RI—A resident and a firefighter were hurt after a fire erupted at a Princess Avenue house early Friday.

Cranston firefighters got the first call from a police officer reporting a possible fire at 72 Princess Ave. at around 1:42 a.m. Crews arrived as the fire, which started in the top floor of the multi-family house, sent flames and smoke from the windows.

One resident was hospitalized for burns after they jumped over flames to escape. That person was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The firefighter was injured after a ceiling collapse as he battled the fire inside the structure. His injuries were also non life-threatening.

At least seven people were displaced by the fire and were being offered assistance by the American Red Cross. Several pets were rescued.
