CRANSTON, RI — Flooding caused by rain Tuesday into Wednesday has caused the closure of several roads in Cranston, according to police.

Cranston police said the following roads are closed, as of Wednesday morning:

  • Phenix Avenue at High Meadow Court
  • Fletcher Avenue, Elmwood at Wellington Avenue
  • Route 2 southbound at Carmax, Oaklawn Avenue south of the rotary
  • Pippen Orchard Road near the Furnace Hill Brook.

"Road conditions will be changing throughout day as rivers crest," a Cranston police said in a Facebook post. "Please stay off all roads if possible and use caution when traveling. Do not cross flooded areas! Thank you and be safe."

A flood warning is in effect for central Rhode Island until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, and until Friday for the southwestern part of the state, according to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency.
