Four City Plow Trucks Stolen in Two Weeks

Cranston police are now working with multiple agencies to investigate a crime that has happened elsewhere.

CRANSTON, RI—Detectives continue to investigate the brazen theft of four city snowplows from two different parking lots in a case that has expanded to multiple jurisdictions.

“We’re getting information from other agencies investigating similar crimes,” said Cranston Police Acting Cap. Lt. Russell Henry. “This is definitely not limited to Cranston.”

The investigation has led police to believe the thefts were planned in advance by the perpetrators who “scoped it and were on a mission,” Henry said.

Over winter break, two Ford 350s were stolen from the school department behind Park View Middle School. A week later, two F350s were stolen from the Parks and Recreation Department. All were eventually recovered outside city limits with their plows and sander attachments removed.

Police are reviewing security camera footage and following leads, Henry said.

The thefts were brazen and not just because the stolen trucks were emblazoned with city and school emblem. In one instance, the trucks were driven right through a gate.
