MA Man Sentenced For Supplying Kilos Of Cocaine To RI Drug Ring

In Rhode Island arrests were made in connection to the drug ring in Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, and North Smithfield.

PROVIDENCE, RI — A Massachusetts man described in court documents as being a "kilo weight" dealer of cocaine in Rhode Island was sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison, acting U.S. Attorney Sara Miron Bloom said Monday.

Juan Betancourt Sosa, 29, of New Bedford, Massachusetts, pleaded guilty on Oct. 16, 2024, to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. He was sentenced to five years and 10 months in prison, followed by four years of federal probation.

Sosa Betancourt admitted he was a source for supplying cocaine to a person who was providing kilograms of cocaine to a Rhode Island drug ring that trafficked crack cocaine and fentanyl. In Rhode Island arrests were made in connection to the drug ring in Providence, Cranston, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, and North Smithfield.

Prosecutors said Betancourt Sosa supplied at least six kilograms of cocaine to a person, who then delivered the drugs to the leader of the conspiracy. At the time of his arrest, two kilos of cocaine were found inside the trunk of a car Betancourt Sosa was in, prosecutors said.
