Man who Assaulted Corrections Officers Captured after Manhunt

Jesse Gabriau attacked to correctional officers at the ACI on Monday and fled the scene, sparking a manhunt.

CRANSTON, RI—A Coventry man has been charged with assaulting two correctional officers Monday night after an incident at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston.

Jesse Gabriau, 26, was at the probation and parole building to have a battery in his ankle bracelet replaced when he assaulted to officers and fled, according to the state police.

Gabriau, a registered sex offender who was most recently indicted multiple child molestation counts, was intoxicated and in violation of his bail. When the correctional officers tried to handcuff him, he became violent and fled.

Both officers suffered head injuries and were transported to the hospital.

Gabriau was located after a manhunt in a Warwick apartment and is now facing multiple counts of assaulting an officer, assault of a person older than 60, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

He will be arraigned later Tuesday.
