Masked Men Rob Cranston Market with Machete

Two masked men stole cash, a hookah and cigarettes from La Frontera market Thursday night.

CRANSTON, RI—Two masked men, one carrying a machete, stole cigarettes, $410 cash and a hookah from La Frontera Market on Broad Street Thursday night.

Cranston Police Capt. Karen Guilbeault said that the store clerk stepped outside to take out the trash.

"When he came in, two suspects wearing masks were inside and one had a machete," Guilbeault said.

The suspects fled on foot heading north on Broad Street and detectives are now investigating.

Police said the store has security cameras, but detectives weren't sure if they'll be able to get clear footage of the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cranston police at 942-2211.

This isn't the first time police have investigated a robbery involving a machete. Coventry police arrested a 28-year-old West Warwick man earlier this year after he robbed a BankRI branch in their town while wielding a machete. He was indicted in early June and was due to be arraigned soon.
