Playwrights Wanted: 11th Annual One-Act Play Festival Seeks Submissions

Artists' Exchange is once again accepting submissions for its annual One Act Play Festival.

CRANSTON, RI—Emerging and established playwrights are invited to submit plays for the 11th Annual One Act Play Festival at Artists’ Exchange in Rolfe Square.

The festival, which will run from July 22 to Aug. 13 this year, attracts some of the most talented and innovative playwrights across Rhode Island and beyond.

The application deadline this year is Friday, April 15.

Plays should be original and about 10 to 15 minutes in length. Previously produced plays are OK and writers can submit up to three works.

Whether the subject is serious or ridiculous, musical or monologue, everything is welcome at this festival, which aims to be engaging and innovative above all else.

Selected plays will be directed, produced, and performed by Rhode Island and local theater professionals, community actors, and Artists’ Exchange artists.

All performances will be held at Theatre 82 & Character’s Café in Rolfe Square.

Selected Plays for Performance: Plays will be reviewed and judged by a panel of community directors and actors on their artistic and technical merits. The Panel will finalize and announce all selected plays for performance by no later than Thursday, May 31, 2016. All playwrights will receive notification of whether their play(s) were accepted or not. By submitting works, playwrights agree to allow Artists’ Exchange to produce their play(s) in the Festival for the public’s entertainment and benefit. Participation is volunteer; no stipends or monetary prizes are awarded to selected playwrights. All monies collected from ticket sales will benefit Artists’ Exchange/Gateways to Change, Inc. and the continuation of the One Act Play Festival for years to come. Selected playwrights will receive complimentary tickets (amount TBD) and recognition in the playbill, including a personal bio and contact information (if provided).

To Submit: Please send all plays to Artists’ Exchange by physical mail or email and include your contact information and play title(s). Playwrights may only submit up to three (3) plays maximum. Physical mail submissions addressed to the attention of “One Act Play Festival Submission” and sent to Artists’ Exchange, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI 02910.
