Police ID Suspect in Kidnapping of Cranston Children

He was last seen driving a VW Passat with a "Baby on Board" sticker on the rear windshield. If you've seen Irvin Sanchez, call police.

Providence police identified the man who allegedly kidnapped and later abandoned two Cranston children at a Providence meat market on Wednesday after an apparent roommate dispute.

Irvin Sanchez, 24, was last seen in a black Volkswagen Passat with a “Baby on Board” sticker on the rear window and the car reportedly is missing its back hubcaps.

Sanchez allegedly strong-armed the children away from their mother in a Walmart parking lot after a dispute and said that she could have them back when she returned his items.

Police found the children after workers at Joe’s Meat Market at Westminster and Dexter Streets called police to report that a man had dropped off an 11-month-old baby and a 4-year-old child and said the mother would be there to pick them up shortly.

The mother called police and said that she went back home after he took the children and expected him to arrive at the house. When he didn’t show for some time, she called police.

The children were reunited with their mother at Hasbro Children’s Hospital later Wednesday evening.

The woman described the man as her roommate and a police report indicated that Sanchez had accused the woman of stealing money or drugs.

If you have information about Sanchez’s whereabouts, call Providence police at 401-272-3121.
