Rhode Islanders Seeing Some Relief At Gas Pumps Before Christmas
Ocean Staters are getting some relief at the pump, as they do their holiday shopping.
RHODE ISLAND — Rhode's Island's gas prices continued heading in the right direction, giving Ocean Staters some relief as they do their holiday shopping as Christmas approaches.
Since last week, the average price for a gallon of gas dropped 12 cents in the Ocean State, according to AAA Northeast.
As of Monday, gas prices in Rhode Island are sitting at $3.33 per gallon, according to AAA Northeast. Monday's price was also 44 cents lower than it was a month ago and five cents lower than a year ago.

Gas prices in Rhode Island are above the national average, which sat at $3.15 Monday.
"The cost of oil, gasoline’s main ingredient, has been hovering in the low-to-mid $70s per barrel, and that’s $50 less than the peak last Spring," said Diana Gugliotta, the director of public affairs for AAA Northeast. "Combined with low seasonal demand, gas prices could slide a bit more before leveling off."

As of Monday, the current average price for a gallon of gas in Rhode Island was $3.33 for the cheap stuff, $3.97 for mid-grade, $4.21 for premium and $5.31 for diesel.
