Roger Williams Zoo: Saki Monkey Born On Jan 8
The zoo isn't yet sure if the baby monkey is a boy or a girl.

CRANSTON, RI—A baby Saki monkey was born at the Roger Williams Zoo on Jan. 8, according to Diane S. Nahabedian, director of marketing and public relations. The Saki monkeys live in rainforest trees in South America, typically in Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana, she said. They seldom drop to the ground. This baby is spending the first few weeks of life snuggled in the mother's fur.
"This does not mean these little monkeys are not curious," the zoo said. "Instead, they poke their tiny heads out from the safe protection of their mother’s body, as shown in the attached video, to learn what is going on in the world around them."
Currently, the baby is living in the tropics greenhouse with mother Suni and father Gaugin. But this summer, they'll all move to the zoo's new Rainforest exhibit.

The baby's gender is not yet known.
"However, if the monkey is male the baby will begin to develop a white circle of hair around its face within the first or second week of birth," the zoo said.
