Shop With A Cop: Cranston Police Help Youngsters With Gift List

The police officers went shopping with the children Saturday to buy necessities, gifts and a little something for themselves.

CRANSTON, RI—Some lucky youngsters went shopping Saturday at the Plainfield Pike Walmart with police officers who helped them whittle down their holiday shopping list. This was the second annual 'Shop with a Cop' event, according to police Capt. Vincent McAteer. The children could buy gifts for family and for themselves, thanks to the program, which is co-sponsored by Cadence Manufacturing, Walmart, the Cranston YMCA, Emwood Sports and the police.

"The children are selected based on income and circumstances with the assistance of the Cranston YMCA," the captain said. “We are thrilled to take part in ‘Shop with a Cop’ again this season. We are looking forward to the opportunity to talk with the kids about caring, giving, and fellowship; and we hope to come away with a connection and experience that we otherwise would not have the opportunity to create."
