CRANSTON, RI — Costco Wholesale might still come to Rhode Island, but could it end up in a different city than Cranston?

The first Costco Wholesale in the state was expected to open in Cranston at the site of the former state correctional institution's building on Goddard Road. But Costco withdrew its zoning and permit applications. So now, Warwick city officials are trying to get Costco to come there instead.

Warwick City Council President Steve McAllister told WPRI 12 he invited Costco's management to visit and discuss opening a store in the city instead of Cranston.

"Warwick is a special place and has numerous locations that would be a perfect fit for Costco," McAllister told WPRI 12. "I look forward to speaking with Costco officials, so I can highlight why Warwick should be the location of their next box store and warehouse."
