Bag of Animal Heads Found In East Greenwich

EAST GREENWICH, RI — A bag of animal heads was found in East Greenwich last month, and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is looking for the person or group responsible.

East Greenwich police found the plastic trash bag filled with animal heads near the Water Street Boat launch. RISPCA officials said the bag contained a calf's head, several rooster heads, a lamb head, a kid goat head, animal feed and colored materials associated with previous animal sacrifice investigations.

"It is believed that animal remains that were found were from animals that were sacrificed as part of a religious ritual," a RISPCA spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

Officials said the bag also contained two hand-drawn pictures. The RISPCA's law enforcement division is asking for the public's help identifying the drawings and the significance of their presence with the remains.

The Humane Society of the United Stated offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of people conducting animal sacrifice rituals in Rhode Island.
