Cole Mile's A Lot More Than 5,280 Feet
It's a school community event that celebrates all the finishers.
A three-year-old record was beaten Thursday at the annual Cole Mile, when both eighth graders Dawson Leonard and Henry Perretta crossed the finish line together at 5:10, 9 seconds faster than the previous record-holder, Colin Tierney, who is now a junior track standout at Hendriken.
The eighth grade boys ran the final heat of the day, and for those boys it was certainly the main event, but each of the heats held examples of perserverance, athleticism and, in more than a few cases, no small amount of grit.Â
Running a mile isn't easy for most of us.Â

But the atmosphere couldn't have been more supportive, with even the final finishers being cheered on as loudly as those who came in first.
